Hwang In-heh is a prominent Korean artist who has elevated the spiritual essence of Korean tradition and the symbolic beauty of Hangeul into a unique form of contemporary abstract art. Since beginning her artistic career in 1969, she has been recognized as a pioneer of Hangeul abstraction. By reconstructing the fundamental elements of Hangeul—dots, lines, and shapes—into a visual language, she has reimagined King Sejong’s scientifically designed script into a distinctive and modern aesthetic. In addition, Hwang has visualized themes of family and tradition through knotwork techniques inherited from her mother, using twisted hanji (traditional Korean paper). These knots serve as symbolic elements in her major works, representing connections between humanity and the cosmos, as well as expressions of love and gratitude. Her work has gained international recognition, notably at the 1994 Budapest Art Expo and her solo exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center in Paris in 1995.Hwang’s artistic universe is grounded in Eastern cosmology, the spirit of Korean literati painting, and the symbolic structure of Hangeul. Her creative practice reflects a profound meditation on harmony between humans, nature, and the universe. Through this, she has developed a singular artistic philosophy that bridges Korean tradition and contemporary sensibility.Over the years, Hwang has shown strong support for Culture Masters, actively promoting its work at home and abroad. She has also engaged with projects such as Arirang Culture Connect with deep affection, offering generous support and encouragement. Her commitment reflects a deep understanding of cultural diplomacy and international exchange through art, and we extend our sincere gratitude for her continued dedication. In recognition of her contributions and vision, Culture Masters appoints Hwang In-heh as Special Advisor. We look forward to working together to share the cultural value and artistic philosophy of her work more widely with audiences around the world.
